Guided meditations are tools providing support and healing either in parallel to counselling and psychotherapy sessions, or as a practice in their own right. They promote awareness, integration of experiences and mindfulness. They are useful to manage stress and difficult emotions, reduce anxiety and fear, and help with sleeping problems.
Eggs of Light Meditation
20:22 mins
This is a useful meditation to practice daily to help you centre, ground and find inner stillness.
It will support you in creating a safe and contained inner space, where boundaries are established and protected. At the same time, it will help you cleanse and rebalance your body’s subtle energies.
It is with deep gratitude to Gildas and Ruth White that I share this meditation. It was inspired by their teaching and guidance, and it was adapted by my own experience and use of subtle energy work and healing over several years.
Make yourself comfortable by sitting on a chair or on a sofa with your feet on the floor, feeling the contact between your feet and the hard surface. Feel your back, nicely supported by the back of the seat, and allow your hands to rest, relaxed on your laps, with your palms turned upwards.
Now take a moment to feel that you are connected to the ground and to the seat, that you are connected to the place in which you are. Maybe it’s a room, maybe it’s an open space, but you are connected. And be aware that these connections to the material realm, the hard surfaces you feel through your body, link you to the Earth, the Earth on which you stand, or sit, or lie.
The Earth on which you walk every day, and of which you breathe the air, and of which you see the colors, and sense the temperatures, and the sounds, and that you can smell. Feel connected to the Earth which you are part.
Now, gently bring your focus on your breathing as it comes in and out from your body. As you breathe in and as you breathe out, pay attention to where your breathing starts from and where it goes.
Just allow this movement to happen and follow it as it happens.
Now imagine that you are starting breathing in from the top of your head.
The flow of air traverses your whole body downwards, passing through your head, down your neck, down your spine, and all the organs in your torso, down the hips, and all the organs in your pelvis, and down your legs, until it comes out from the bottom of your feet and it goes down into the earth. So the flow of air is taken from above your head, and you are gently following its flow… its flow… by observing it as it traverses your body, bringing you a sense of cleansing, a sense of vitality, a sense of calm, until it gets out from your feet, down into the floor, into the ground, into the Earth. And it goes even more down… down… down again, until it reaches the centre of the Earth. So let’s breathe in this way for a few times.
Breathe in, from the top of your head, feeling the flow traversing your body, feeling regenerated, revitalised, renewed, and out from your feet.
Now we are going to do the reverse. We are going to breathe from the bottom of our feet upwards, imagining that the air comes up from the centre of the Earth. It traverses the various strata of the Earth, it goes through the ground, it traverses the floor onto which your feet are, it gets into your feet and it comes up… up… up…
It traverses your legs, passes through your hips, up through your spine, and all the organs in the torso, up through your neck, your head, and out from the top of your head towards the sky.
And again we follow this movement from the center of the Earth. We breathe in through the feet, up in the body and out towards the sky. Let us do this a few times… without forcing the breathing, just allowing your natural movement to unfold as you follow the flow.
Now, as we breathe, we imagine that we are going to create different bubbles of light around ourselves, different eggs of light around our physical body.
Initially, you can imagine these bands of light as being two dimensional, but eventually they will expand into being three dimensional, forming an egg of light, different eggs of light… in such a way that you are going to sit inside an initial egg of light, and then more, and more, and more, as I guide you through creating them.
As we breathe in now, we imagine that the first bubble, the first egg of light is going to surround your body, and it is a nice raspberry colour moving towards a red, a dark red, colour.
And as we breathe, we imagine this colour becoming clear, translucent.
As we breathe this nice egg of red, it becomes clearer and stronger.
And let’s make sure that this colour is as pure as possible. We can look through it as if we were looking through a red glass, a stained glass, only this is made of light. And these bubbles of light interpenetrate with matter, so their vibration, their flow, doesn’t get interrupted by matter.
Let’s breathe this raspberry red colour around the physical body.
And as we look at this first bubble, this egg of light around us, we also have a sense of ourselves inside it. And as we breathe, we feel the vibrancy of this first egg.
We feel the aliveness of this egg, of the light… We feel its strength, and at the same time it’s movement, its vibration.
This is what we want to feel for all the other bubbles that we are going to put around, and add…
So now we are going to visualise a second egg of light, which we are going to put around the first one, around the red one. And this second egg is going to be orange in colour.
So we breathe in and as we breathe in and out, it forms itself around the red bubble, the red egg.
And this second layer of light has a nice, deep orange colour, like oranges.
Again, let’s make sure that this colour is translucent, clear, vaporous, strong, and yet it vibrates as we breathe.
Just observe it as it grows, as it moves, as it intensifies itself together with the rhythm of your breath.
And now we are going to add a third layer, a third bubble of light around. And this time it’s going to be yellow, like those wonderful sunflowers that we might have seen in a field during summertime.
Imagine the deep yellow colour that sunflowers have. And we are going to breathe in this lovely yellow colour, and we are going to put an egg of this yellow, around the orange jack. And again, we observe it as it vibrates.
As we breathe in and out, our breathing will make it become clearer, translucent, strong, more vibrant.
And as you breathe, it might expand a little, or it might reduce its thickness a bit. Just trust that this bubble of light will vibrate better and it will find the right balance in its vibration through you breathing in, and out, as you create this band of yellow light.
And now we are going to add another bubble, and this time it’s going to be green. Green like the grass is in a meadow at springtime. Let the colour come into your mind’s eye as you breathe, and let this egg form around you, with this beautiful green, Spring green…
So now you are surrounded by red, orange, yellow and green. And as you focus on the green, the last layer that you have put, pay attention once more to its vibrancy. Make sure that it’s clear, that it’s clean, that there are no holes in the band of light… that the light is nice and pure… it has homogeneity, and then let your breathing bring the cleansing and the purification, if needed.
Now we are going to put another egg, and this time it is going to be light blue, turquoise blue, like the sky during those bright days in the Summer period.
So we breathe in this light blue colour again, making sure that it’s clear, that it’s translucent…
And now we are going to add a new bubble, a new echo of light, this time of a dark blue colour, an indigo colour. It is a deep, very intense blue.
We breathe the dark blue around the light blue, and around all the other bubbles. And this new band of colour also becomes translucent, it becomes clear, it vibrates…
Let’s make sure that this dark blue band is also nice, strong, and yet fluid in its movements as we breathe.
And finally, we are going to add the last layer, which is purple. And we observe once again, as we breathe, the purple colour becoming clean, translucent and vibrant.
And this is the colour that is further away from our physical body, although it is very much connected to the body, too. Let’s breathe once more into it to give it a full, intense, pure purple light…
And we have now all these eggs of light around us: the red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue and purple.
Let’s have a sense of how big and how far all these eggs of light are from our physical body.
Maybe you have a sense of their size, their intensity. There is the red one close to your physical body, and then there is the orange one and the yellow one, and the green one, a bit further. And then the light blue. And as we breathe, let’s take a moment to see how they vibrate…
And then the dark blue and the purple one… let’s look…
And they might want to expand a little, or contract a little… as you breathe.
Let them move as if they were an organic being that has its own free movement and yet it is connected to you, and they are connected to each other as you breathe. All these eggs are part of you, as you breathe.
And now we are going to put around all of these other eggs, an external egg made of silver. But this time we are not going to breathe this egg as it is not made of light, it’s made of silver… the metal.
So just imagine in your mind’s eye that there is an external silver egg that is going to contain all the bands of light, all the bubbles of colour that you have put around yourself by breathing.
And take a moment to look at this beautiful external egg of silver, as it contains and protects all the coloured light… it envelops all the bands of colour, it keeps them safely contained, and yet they are free to move, free to vibrate, free to expand… because the egg of silver adjusts itself as a container, as needed by the bands of light.
If silver is not a metal that you feel is right for you at this time, maybe you want to put gold or maybe lead, or it might be copper…
Just let your intuition guide you into what feels right as a metal to surround the bands of colour.
As you are aware of these nice and soft colors of light around you, as well as the outer egg that contains them all. Bring them now back your focus to your breathing in your body.
Shift your attention to your feet on the ground, to your body connected to the seat, having a contact with physical matter, having a contact with the ground, with the floor… with the earth. And gently, gently, start moving your toes, your fingers.
And if you want, you can touch your knees, touch your face and gently, gently come back to the room where you are, back to your physical space in the here and now.
You are here and now.
